Places will first be offered to those children who are ordinarily resident in the school’s catchment area and whose parents have nominated it by the deadline (end of February). ‘Ordinarily resident’ means permanently resident for a settled purpose. It does not include residence taken up solely to qualify as living in the catchment area for the purpose of gaining a place at the school. It does not apply to proposed moves into the catchment area, which have not taken place at the time of application.

For more information on admissions, please refer to the booklet ‘Schools in Suffolk’, which will be given on application for a place at the school.

Parents who make a late application will be considered after those received by the deadline, according to the criteria listed in the ‘Schools in Suffolk’ booklet.

So that the LEA can comply with infant class size legislation, it is required by law to refuse admission where this would result in an infant class containing more than 30 pupils.

Children admitted to a school, which is not their normal catchment area school, are assured of a place for the whole of their time there (for example, for 4 years in a 9-13 middle school).

Important Note

Parents should note that it is not possible to guarantee a place in the catchment area school unless it is one of the three schools nominated on the application form and the form arrives before the deadline. You should therefore consider naming the catchment area school as one of your nominations.

Places are not guaranteed, however, in the neighbouring Junior school if it is not the catchment area school. In other words, it is necessary to apply at each stage of transfer for any school, which is not your catchment area school.
