Tiger News Spring 1 – Traditional Tales

We have had yet another very busy half term! Traditional Tales has been a fun packed topic to start 2018.

We started off the term reading and retelling Jack and the Bean Stalk. We did some very detailed retelling of the story and we included lots of skills that we have learnt. The amount of skills we can use in our writing is very impressive. We can use different openers, adjectives, expanded noun phrases and we are starting to include exclamations.

We also had a production company come into school and some of our class joined the cast to play parts in the show. The show told the stories of Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Three Little Pigs. It was great fun and we laughed a lot. We also produced some lovely descriptions of scenes from the show.

In our Maths learning we have been looking at multiplication and division. We have been learning about arrays and how to share numbers equally. As well as this we have focused on 2D and 3D shapes.  At first we found this quite tricky but we now have 2 shapes of the week and we recap what they are and their properties every day. We are now doing a very good job of remembering them.

To round off our time learning about traditional tales we did our own version of a few of our favourites for our class assembly. We really enjoyed performing the roles of different characters. It was a challenge as we only had a week to learn our parts but we think we have done a very good job!

Miss Hay and Mrs Tricker have been very impressed with how hard we have worked this half term. Especially impressed with how much we have learnt since it is such a short half term. We can all enjoy a well earned rest over the half term holiday.

When we come back we will be learning all about chocolate! How it is made, where it comes from and we are going to do a fun project designing our own chocolate product.
