Absence

It is important that you inform us of the reason for absence by telephone on the first day and follow up with a note on your child’s return to school. If we do not hear from you, we will contact you on the first day of absence.

The Education (Pupils Attendance Records) Regulations 1991

For the purpose of these regulations, the terms ‘authorised absence’ and ‘unauthorised absence’ have been introduced for pupils of compulsory school age. The following may be regarded as authorised absence.

a. Sickness.
b. Certain religious festivals.
c. Where the Local Education Authority has not provided suitable transport and the school is not within walking distance.
d. Absence following the death of a close member of family.
e. Medical appointments (though these should be outside school hours whenever possible).
