Maidstone was one of the first schools in Suffolk to register with the Get Set Network. This means we are officially part of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games! http://getset.london2012.com/en/home
Maidstone Infant School and Nursery are doing lots of things in preparation for the London Olympics and Paralympics 2012. Every Thursday Mrs Squirrell runs an Olympic Assembly. The children are set homework to find out about an Olympic or Paralympic Sport. After the children have fed back what they have learned we often watch the sport on The London 2012 site: http://www.london2012.com/
Each week we also focus on one of the values:
The Olympic Values
- respect – fair play; knowing one’s own limits; and taking care of one’s health and the environment
- excellence – how to give the best of oneself, on the field of play or in life; taking part; and progressing according to one’s own objectives
- friendship – how, through sport, to understand each other despite any differences .
The Paralympic Values:
- courage – to be brave, to be adventurous, to face your fears, to be a hero, have confidence to follow your beliefs
- determination – make decisions, to go and get what you want, making sure you achieve your goal, being focused on success
- inspiration – doing something wonderful that others would like to do, influencing others
- equality – being equal, being treated the same whatever you do or whoever you are.

Every half term we are also focusing on an Olympic Sport in one of our PE lessons. This half term is Gymnastics and the best two from each class will be chosen to perform in an assembly. Watch this space to find out who the winners were!
We would also like to work on a piece of artwork that will be a lasting legacy for the school. If you have any ideas please let Mrs Squirrell know!
